Final Major Project.

For my final major project at University, I decided to write my own brief where I had gathered inspiration from my chosen dissertation which raised awareness of, "AGEING AND FASHION: ARE WOMEN OVER SIXTY BECOMING THE NEW IT GIRLS OF FASHION?". I took a particular interest into writing about this topic and wanted to delve deeper into discovering the older demographic of women who dress out of the stereotypical guidelines for their age.

When looking at competitors, there was not a lot of competition for this market or demographic. With the typical magazines appearing quite dull and based upon topics such as gardening, knitting or lifestyle. I discovered a gap in the market for the older trendy women magazine.

I created the brand, 'YAH'- Young At Heart. I wanted a short, catchy and memorable name which attracted to both the older and younger market, and this was a perfect fit, as this is a print publication which celebrates the mature generation of women who still look and feel... Young At Heart.

In order to create the magazine, I posted on my own social media accounts and group pages to discover older women who stood outside of the stereotypical appearance.

I wanted to meet with powerful and independent women of all ages, sizes, ethnicities and backgrounds, rather than style models myself so the publication could tell a story through the imagery I took and create a community between all the unique women.

I would most definitely continue YAH as an online format and print publication as a side hobby, as this was a great opportunity to connect and meet with a variety of different women at all ages. Breaking the barriers and communicating with an older audience was amazing, and I most definitely learnt a lot, and listened to some great stories. To share these stories and women to the world, I created social media accounts on Facebook & Instagram to grow an audience and interest into the brand as well as creating physical promotional material to go alongside the printed magazine.
